Wow! Another classroom community celebration for TEAMWORK!

Is this fun or what?

Even the adults enjoyed P.J. Day!

Tracking animals in the snow

What kind of animal did Sandal bring?

Look! Something left behind by an animal!
What could it be?

Icicles hanging from a cliff are
so interesting!

We found a place where squirrels had just had
a snack!

What a nice log for sitting and resting!

Welcome Back Home!

The class worked together to make a welcome back home poster for Sadira's dad who will be
returning home from a year in Afghanistan!  The children were excited to create each letter of the
banner and then see it all roll out with their messages and their artwork!  We know it will be a great
reunion for the family to finally be back together again after so long apart!

Sing-A-Long

On Friday, we had our holiday Sing-A-Long with our Book Buddies, Mrs. Pierce's 4th Graders.
First we practiced in the Music Room....
Then we went to the stage!  Up on the risers!   Would we see someone we
knew in the audience?
Now, the curtains opened and we started to sing!
This was fun!!!  Everyone clapped for us!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Veteran's Day Parade

The children enjoyed a brisk walk downtown to watch the Veteran's Day Parade.  They made United States flags before we left the classroom and waved them excitedly at the parade.  Nitya who is from India learned about how our Veteran's Day is celebrated and how we honor all the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces.

A special visitor reads to the class!

The children enjoyed listening to Vermont Education Commissioner, Armando Vilaseca read a story
to them in our library.  Mr. Vilaseca stopped by the library on a visit of our school and spent some time reading with the children before he continued on.  He showed the children how important reading is
by taking time out of his busy day to stop and read!

Bat Day!

Today, we dressed up with bat wings and bat masks as the culminating activity in
our study of bats.  We labeled the body parts of a bat, wrote acrostic poems using
the letters BATS, watched an amazing video of bats and finally made a bat cave
for the classroom.  You can see us here in our bat costumes getting ready for the day!

Nature Adventure Day at Hubbard Park

On our way to Hubbard Park!

We found something alive in the steam!

Taking a closer look...

 What could it be?

Sandal asks us to guess what animal she has in her hand.

What does she have in her hand?  I wonder...

Time to learn a new game!

4-Winds Science Exploration

Working together on a  leaf rubbing!
We found two leaves that were
twins.
We found two leaves from a Maple Tree.

Looking for a leaf twin.

Today we learned about leaves in 4-Winds. Our parent volunteers, Cara and Elise entertained us with a puppet show. We learned about why leaves turn from green to many beautiful colors like red, yellow and orange. It has to do with the shorter days and the lack of light which is needed to produce chloryphyll in a process called photosynthesis. The children explored leaves up close and saw that they have veins just like people do. After they collected leaves, they made some leaf rubbings.

Have You Filled a Bucket Today?

The children have been learning how to become bucket fillers and not bucket dippers.

The children have a bucket that is ready for  filling.  Each time a child fills another bucket, they in turn fill their own bucket.  The children thought of all kinds of ways they could be bucket fillers.  Smiling at someone, saying "Hello, will you play with me?", saying
"I like you" are some of the simple ways children can become bucket fillers.  It's catching on!  When we left school today, there were so many buckets that had been filled that we ran out of blue pom-poms.
It is great to see the way children become bucket fillers!

Nature Adventure Day

We had three teachers come visit our classroom from the North Branch Nature Center.  They brought
a treasure of items to share with us.  There was a baby turtle and some pelts that we looked at before
going outdoors for a two hour nature learning adventure.  We played games and hiked in the woods looking
for items on the scavenger hunt.  We practiced using our deer ears, owl eyes, and raccoon touch.  We also remembered to fox walk so that we could be quiet and not disturb the wildlife around us.

Community Celebration

The first community goal of the year was TEAMWORK.  The children earned a special day to celebrate working together as a classroom community.  The day was lots of fun with pajamas, stuffed animal friends and delicious treats.
